EDGECRUSHER
1-Would you please tell us a little bit about the band?
Hi there :o)
Edgecrusher was founded by me (Igor) in march 2002. I was
searching for musicians to work with me, so there came
Martin, Johannes and Jan along. Martin was a longtime friend
I knew from the school, Jan and Johannes I found due to
advertising in music shops etc.
After some months we got in contact with a bass player and
Ivio was in the band.
So here we are, 2 and half years later.
2-Have
the members in EDGECRUSHER been involved in other bands
before EDGECRUSHER ? If so, which bands?
We
were expierencing music and business in other local bands
but nothing special worth to mention. Edgecrusher is the
first band for all of us to be the right band to go for our
aims.
3-Which town in Germany are you from? Does everybody in the
band live there?
The
town is called Konstanz and lies directly on the border to
Switzerland. We have about 80.000 people living here. I
think itīs a very nice town, not too small but with a
beautiful landscape and lake (Lake Constance - the biggest
lake in Germany).
Just me and Ivio live in Konstanz, but the other bandmates
are not that far, just on the other side of the lake. It
takes me about 30 minutes to get to our band room where we
practice.
4-Are
you satisfied with the Mcd " Deeper Than Hate"? Where was it
recorded? In which studio?
Hmmm, I think we could have done better. The production is
too weak, Iīm missing the real punch in it. But well, this
was our first Mcd, so I think, the next one will be better,
weīve learned our lessons.
The album was recorded in the Tanksafe Studios
(Friedrichshafen, Germany). We were the first band they were
producing, the studio was established in March 2004. So
there are no bad feelings towards them īcause we know they
couldnīt make it sound better due to that fact.
5-I
think the Mcd "Deeper Than Hate "is pure thrash metal). Do
you think that there is more room for more thrash metal
bands like EDGECRUSHER?
Sure, I think we have something like a small Thrash revival.
There are a lot of thrash metal bands in the German
Undergound, like our friends Bitterness, they sound awesome.
The only thing what Underground bands need is the
opportunity to get a label and have a fuckinī lot of live
gigs.
6-I
think that EDGECRUSHER has some big musical similarities
with the biggest germany thrash metal act Destruction. How
do you comment on that?
Iīm kinda surprised to hear that. You are the first one to
compare Edgecrusher to Destruction hehe. Well, I never
thought about that, I think weīre kinda more modern
thrashers than Destruction due to our influences and faves
we listen to like Machine Head or the old awesome thrash
bands from the bay area like Testament, Forbidden, Exodus,
old Metallica stuff.
Mostly weīre described as a bastard between old stuff from
the bay area and some melodic death metal. Well, I think
itīs an honour to be compared to Destruction but on the
other side the people should make their own mind and listen
to Edgecrusher :o)
7-Is "
Deeper Than Hate" the name of the debut, or is it just a
working title?
"Deeper Than Hate" is our first demo cd, so this the title
for it. We donīt have a working title for our debut yet. At
the moment we are concentrating on playing live and
promoting our stuff like demo, shirts etc. But in the near
future we will surely begin our work on the debut album but
first of all I have to pass my law exams in march 2005.
After that Iīll have a lot of time for Edgecrusher.
8-Do
you have enough material for the debut?
No, right at the moment we donīt have enough songs for a
full-length album. But donīt worry, weīre working quite hard
and soon there will be enough material. Some of the new
songs are better than the songs on "Deeper Than Hate", this
is my own opinion.
9-Are
there any record companies that are interested in
EDGECRUSHER?
We had some contact to a quite big Indie Label in Germany,
but most of the bands who are on that label are power metal
bands, so we didnīt fit their concept.
But we wonīt give up and will release an full length album,
doesnīt matter we find a label or not.
10-Who
writes the lyrics/music?
The lyrics are written by me (Igor) with no exception. This
is a very personal thing I would never give to someone else
to write it for me. The music is written by Jan, Johannes
and me. I think itīs kinda democratic even Jan and Joe donīt
agree always hehehe.
11-Are
the lyrics about anything special? What are the lyrics about?
Well, there are 2 types of lyrics that I write. On the one
hand there are very personal lyrics about feelings like love
& hate, on the other hand there are a lot of political
lyrics.
For example "Dead Blood Red" is about politicians in the
world who think they have to establish s new world order.
Due to economic interests they start wars in the name of
western civilization. If I met some of them one day, Iīd
like to take the chance and beat the shit out of them.
12-Where do you find the inspiration to the music/lyrics?
Itīs enough to read the daily newspaper or to look news on
TV. There is so much shit happening out there, our world is
a big chaos. There are so many problems and so many
politicians cheating their own people, I guess I could write
lyrics for a billion albums.
13-Have you done any live gigs? In that case, how did it go?
We played kinda often this year and mostly the people did
like it. Had some mosh pits hehe. This is fuckinī crazy.
When you're a musician standing on the stage and you see
people driving crazy down there, this is a feeling I cannot
describe. Fuckinī hell !!!
Our next gig is in the Tschech Republic, itīs a small
festival with something about 2000 - 3000 people. Iīm
looking forward to this and hope theyīll like us.
This year we still have some live gigs and will play with
bands like Disillusion, Fallen Yggdrasil Harmony Dies,
Purgatory, Bitterness and so on. There is maybe a chance to
play with Dew Scentend, this woud be awesome.
14-Does the name EDGECRUSHER mean anything special? Why did
you choose that name?
Well, I really donīt know the exact meaning. I always
thought this is a cool word after I heard the Fear Factory
song for the first time.
Itīs a funny story we took that name īcause our first
drummer Martin just made fun and said we should call us
Edgecrusher in order to make jokes of me because I was using
this word for years in the www as a nickname in chats,
forums an so on.
Well, he looked kinda stupid when the other bandmates
decided to use this as a bandname hahahaha
his reaction
was like "this was just fuckinī stupid joke" hahaha.
15-How
does the future look for EDGECRUSHER? What is going to
happen?
Difficult question. It depends on so many things. We hope to
find a label so dare the step to the professional league.
Future will show us the way whether weīre good enough or
not. Edgecrusher will exist as long as we have fun playing
live and enjoy metal. So I think this might be until Iīm 70
years old ;-)
16-Is
there anything you would like to say to the readers of
